Fiction Fridays: Mr Brown Can Moo! Can You?

Mr Brown Can Moo! Can You?
Dr Seuss, 1970 (Bright and Early Books/Random House)

Oh, the wonderful things
Mr Brown can do!
He can go like a cow.
He can go MOO MOO
Mr Brown can do it.
How about you?

I have always loved the Beginner Books, including but not only those by Dr Seuss. When I had kids and there was a subscription special at Scholastic I finally had two excuses to buy up heaps of them.

I started reading them to the kids when they were about two, and they held their attention more than many other books did - I believe due to a combination of the winning cadences, humour, unique illustrations, and mother's obvious enthusiasm while reading them.

The kids' favourites were Wacky Wednesday, The Cat In the Hat, The Eye Book, In A People House - and this one.

  1. This was a favorite of mine as a child - that and the one about the Sneezles with stars on their bellies... thanks for reminding me.

    1. Yes I liked that one too.
And I Had Trouble Getting to Solla Solyoo (something like that - surrealism for kids!)
And some of the other non-Seuss ones:
      I Wish That I Had Duck-Feet
      Come Over To My House
      Railroad Toad

      Love love love Beginner Books

  2. I Have never read Dr Seuss to my kids and I really should have, I must get some in the house as I know they are brilliant!

  3. Love Dr Seuss, just love him! Sapphire's favourite when she was younger was his ABC and The Lorax.

    1. Hi Kath,
My sister's favourite was The Lorax. Great great books.

  4. My kids just love Dr Seuss.. and so do I! I think I have read Green Eggs & Ham 5,493 times... but I still love it. :)
