Sunday Selections #173

It's time for Sunday Selections!
Sunday Selections is a weekly meme hosted by River at Drifting Through Life.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to River somewhere in your post
3. leave a comment on River's post and visit some of the others who have posted and commented: for example:
    Andrew at High Riser
Gillie at The View From Here

Here is this week's collection of orphan photos:

This is the front of a beautiful box of loose-leaf tea given to me by the grandfather of my daughter's best friend, who has recently returned from Sri Lanka

Rainbow Loom bands as featured in The Age today. This is a photo of a photo in the M Magazine in today's paper. The article was spot on about all aspects of this current craze. I particularly liked the description of enthusiasm, followed by frustration and tears, culminating in expert enjoyment. That's certainly the trajectory we've seen here.

A lovely glass paperweight I bought many years ago, photographed recently so my daughter could post it on Instagram:

Tia:

Here's the old Sherlock Holmes book I mentioned recently
Awarded to my grandmother by her school in 1936.

A Fairfax cartoon from this week. Tony Abbott is depicted badly bruised (one eye 'winking'!) and a bit bewildered after a shocking week that included budget criticism, student protests and the wink incident. Treasurer Joe Hockey, relatively unscathed, encourages him from a safe distance.

Book house, for my many-years-old Mexican onyx animal figurines, which the girls love to play with - when I let them

This pencil has multi-coloured lead: it draws a changing coloured line that is really pretty. Something that only existed in the imagination when I was a kid, but my kids think it is completely normal.

This one is a couple of weeks old, and he hasn't done it since. But it seems Harry had taken some lessons from the cat, who regularly lies on top of my newspaper.

How was YOUR week?

  1. Rainbow loom bands have passed us by over here; presumably because we're in Switzerland *and* because madam turned fifteen earlier this week. LOVE the photo of Harry!

    1. Oh, I don't know. When I visited my sister in Sydney last month I noticed rainbow loom equipment and bracelets in progress and realised they belonged to her twenty-something-year-old nanny!
And most of the girls in the YouTube tutorials we've seen are late teens (at least).

  2. Sherlock Homes is in a good shape. It's difficult to believe it is so old. Your dog is sweet and independent. Definitely strong character.

  3. Love Harry learning from the cat - who never, ever let a newspaper or a book (particularly ones I want to read) remain fur free. The multi-coloured pencil sounds like magic to me. I might have to track one down.

    1. Yes my cat is the same. I try and trick her by pretending I'm reading a folded newspaper placed next to my real reading as a decoy, but it rarely works. Harry always gets jealous when she sits on the table.
The pencils are amazing! My kids and my mum (who bought them) think it's funny I am so amazed but I still am!

  4. Love Harry on the newspaper. Angel does the same, he gets attracted by the wiggling of my pen as I do the crossword, then lies down for his belly rub. He's not at all upset when I pull it out from under him, as long as I continue with the belly rub.
I have an old glass paper weight too, that's something you don't see much of these days.

    1. Tia is also attracted by the wiggling pen and swats at it while I try to do the crossword. Then when I put it down she bats it off the table. At least Henry just slept.

  5. Love love love the Sherlock Holmes book! That thing must be worth a fortune. Wow, I love that!

I had to buy one of those rainbow band things because my boss's kid was selling them and I'm very easily pressured. At least I bought one that had Jamaican colors so, you know, I look cool wearing it.

    1. Ooh, I never considered my old Sherlock Holmes book might be worth money. I love it though.
I LOVE the fact all the guys are wearing loom band bracelets from the kids in their lives. I think it is very cool.
Three guys in my office wear them, and show no signs of taking them off so far.
